In reply to the discussion: 'Bernie Mafia': Sanders Supporters Look to Seize Democratic Party Initiative [View all]frazzled
(18,402 posts)was due to the ramifications of the Sanders primary challenge, which convinced a lot of young people that Clinton was the corporatist devil (c'mon, you know you saw it widespread here). They did not show up to vote for her, or voted for third party candidates.
And that vilification is still going on: vote for me just because I'm a woman? That is low, real low, and also entirely false.
Bernie has an "outreach" position. That's fine with me. But reaching out to disaffected male voters alone, or sticking to the single bogeyman of Wall Street exclusively (that's his bailiwick) would be a huge mistake. And I don't think he has very good relationships with the base of the party. Yes, liberal and moderate and progressive women, minorities, and others, of all ages, make up the base of the party. It's not a great way to start an outreach campaign by rudely insulting a majority of the Democratic Party (namely, women).
