(15,487 posts)It doesn't surprise me at all that Trump would bother most African Americans and other minorities given this country's history.
Many people are very self-centered, though. They pick issues important to them and ignore others.
Look at many so-called Christians in this country who believe that God favors people by making them wealthy! It's the OPPOSITE of what Jesus taught (assuming he ever existed), but those Bible passages get swept under the rug!
I've seen Trump voters interviewed who said (paraphrasing), "I don't like it, but I don't think he really means that stuff. That's just his way to get more attention." If they're being truthful, it shows they placed very low value on racism/bigotry concerns. Does that make them deplorable? I think so, and I've never apologized for them! I just want to be careful because there were also many racists who voted for Clinton!

For example, 32 percent of Trump supporters placed whites closer to the top level of "intelligence" than they did blacks, compared with 22 percent of Clinton supporters who did the same.
About 40 percent of Trump supporters placed whites higher on the "hardworking" scale than blacks, while 25 percent of Clinton supporters did the same. And 44 percent of Trump supporters placed whites as more "well mannered" than blacks, compared with 30 percent of Clinton supporters.
I'm just not sure that calling people racist is effective. Lots of people need better educated and exposed to other people, though. The media's tendency to cover black protestors or hard-core racists in a sensational matter hasn't helped either! Corporations must love the "white vs. black" angle since it keeps more eyes off them!
I suggest that everyone just assume the worst in others and try harder to get sensible laws passed. Some words on a piece of paper deemed "the law" is more effective than trying to change the beliefs of some people. Look at Nazi Germany! The real key to Hitler's power was a law that made it illegal to speak against him or the Nazis!
