19. I think this falls under the "purple people" argument, actually

You know, when someone says "I'm not racist at all! I don't care if you're black white, yellow, or purple with pink polka dots!"

On the face of it, it seems like a "color blind" argument. And perhaps the person's heart is in the right place. But... There are no purple people. There are no polka-dot people. Lumoing them in with the actual shades of humanity ends up being a dismissive gesture, like "oh, you're some wacky creature, too!" and it avoids an honest discussion on the impact and meaning of race in someone's life. It pretends that the only issue is skin shade, and not the cultural complications that erupt around race and ethnicity.

Same with this image. I'm sure the author of it means well, as do the people on this thread. But... people aren't skeletons running around all looking alike; and if we were, there'd still be divisions between gay / straight, religious / atheist, and other nonphysical considerations, wouldn't there?

"Everyone's exactly the same" is a bad argument for equality. Because we're NOT all the same. That's the point of the concept of equality. That all be treated as equal human beings, with their many and myriad differences recognized and accepted as part of who they are.
