(182,603 posts)He is mostly a photo-op POTUS. There is an office just off the Oval where most POTUS's do their actual work. The Oval tends to be for some meetings but mostly for less functional activities and, frankly, intimidating people. I've read several accounts of fierce proponents having the wind taken out of their sails upon entering the Oval. It sounds like Trump just sits in there all day to establish that he's the boss.
Anyone whose taken any new position, especially in a new industry (story of my life), closed their door and starts pouring through the paperwork. If in a position of authority/supervision you do a meet-n-greet letting everyone know you are there. Then it's back to the office. Read read read organize organize organize. Meet with people to get insight and what roles everyone has. THEN come out with your plan and communicate to the staff around you. Trump appears to have done exactly the opposite including not having a staff. The "Beachhead teams" Pence spoke about were complete BS.
His whole career has been a world swirling around him and his petulant decisions. Of late, since Mark Burnett basically saved him, these are really deciding on window dressings menus and staff uniforms not massive construction or acquisitions.
