30. SSDI or SSI?
Wed May 24, 2017, 12:35 PM
May 2017

Your sister must have worked for 10 (ten) years to qualify for SSDI (40 work quarters are required).

The amount you receive is based on how much you have paid into social security disability insurance which is taken out of everyone's pay check, including yours (check your pay stub).

If she only gets a little over $700 a month, I think she must be on SSI as that is a fixed amount depending upon the state you live in.

SSDI or SSI? https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/

Do you know? Is she on Medicare? If she is not on Medicare she is likely not receiving SSDI, she is receiving SSI (Supplemental Security Insurance which is paid by the state) which is not based on work history necessarily and in many cases none depending on the circumstances.
