(22,235 posts)He is more or less the family patriarch. He is always there for everyone in his family of what was once one of ten. There are four left, one being my husband.
One by one I've watched them go. One was in a Catholic nursing home (which suited her just fine being she is of that faith), the rest of them died in a hospital or at home.
So far it is two out of the six that have had to go the 24-hr. care need route. One lost their home and the other is this BIL I mention who certainly deserves more given the very difficult life he has lived.
If it happens around here, we will be sunk. I fear for the worst given my own DX which is not at all good and as for my husband, he is doing fairly well for his age but he does have some serious problems.
I have a difficult time trying to stay positive for my BIL but I think it is about all I can do. He would not speak about it for months after it happened. I kept sending him Get Well wishes in the mail and finally he called. So very sad for such a very kind man.
