(58,375 posts)All involve at least some out of pocket expense. My brother has MediCal, the "free" heath coverage in CA. It ain't free. You still need to pay for transportation to your appointment, some medications aren't covered, others are only partly covered, and there are many noncovered treatments, such as the back surgery my brother needed. Dental care is just the basics: extractions, fillings. My brother had a bad molar, they just pulled it and gave him antibiotics. No bridge, no dental implant. I am unaware of any state funding of pet care.
Nor is there readily available personal grooming, clothing laundry, or a quiet place to sleep. Homeless shelters are scary, loud, overcrowded horror shows. Just come to 5th Street in Downtown L.A. if you think the homeless have "everything you can imagine" in CA.
But I will agree that it's "eeasier" to be homeless here than colder parts of the country. At least you won't freeze to death overnight here.
