In reply to the discussion: NRA shill Wayne LaPierre on Meet the Press today. The lowest of the low has been reached. [View all]Squinch
(58,144 posts)we say we will tolerate a discussion of "ideas" we get the talking points. I will not engage in that nonsense any more. It throws up a roadblock to any actual constructive discussion, which is what the NRA and their ilk is after. They put up enough roadblocks, and the public loses attention and the storm blows over.
LaPierre is not going to create a discussion. He will prevent one. If MTP were putting up a responsible voice for how to enact gun laws that are reasonable, that allow for people to own one gun, or very few guns, for hunting or self protection, and how to do it without destroying MY right to go about my day without fear of getting shot, I would tune in enthusiastically and take notes. But we never get those voices. We get LaPierre who wants us all to have a gun in our handbags without any regulation at all.
We need to demand better from news outlets like MTP.
(And by the way, I'll bet that within a week or so, Rachel gets some person who fits my description on her show. And as I say, I'll tune in and take notes, and work to see the measures enacted.)
