so emotional. i sincerely hope that the victim in this case can gain some healing from this outcome. it's easy enough to say - and certainly it was my first thought - that these boys have probably never been acquainted with even a concept of consequences before now, and they're getting their righteous comeuppance. i agree that they deserve to be punished. but the pain is real.

maybe now this won't happen again. consciousness will be raised, people will think twice before they callously abuse exploit and victimize another victim. i really really hope so. the father of one of the boys is saying just that right now.

he's also talking about alcohol. in my life alcohol has been a truly deadly substance. my mother's life was cut short by it, my father's probably as well. my daughter was killed by a drunk. alcohol played a huge part in this episode and i'm glad that the father brought that up.
