In reply to the discussion: Mountain Dew Pulls 'Most Racist Commercial in History' [View all]Hekate
(100,133 posts)25. His mama must be so proud of him making fun of battered women
This ad is appalling on so many levels I can't even enumerate them, but since the racist angle has been pretty well covered, let me just say that the actress was made up to look severely battered and shrieked repeatedly to simulate severe emotional trauma. Maybe they picked a white woman because the bruises show up so much better? Or because, you know, that black-white racist thing? Or all of the above?
A severely battered woman is Not Funny. Someone needs to lose their paycheck over this, and I suggest starting with this genius.

At the end, there's a caricature of the goat. Were further installments of this nonsense planned?

Thanks for your answer to my question whether more Mountain Dew goat advertisements were planned.

Mountain Dew, the drink of ugly, fat, angry, racist prison cops. Sure makes me want one.

Flame away but a menacing, poorly dubbed goat in a police lineup is pretty funny.

Blowback = publicity. You can bet that one hipster at Pepsi knew what was going to happen.
