The powers-that-be just couldn't accept that all that riff-raff were middle-class sons and daughters of their friends and supporters. There had to be infiltrators! Actually, sometimes there were infiltrators - FBI agents who not only were spying on the leftist youth, but provoked them to commit acts of violence to make the demonstrators look like the evil haters the government said they were.

Ah, the memories!
