89. It's actually relatively easy to hang yourself

We have had an incident like that at the state psych hospital, max security unit. Use bedsheets, and can tie it to anything... even a door knob... and 'hang' yourself. It's actually asphyxiation instead of true 'hanging'. However, there are ways to hang yourself from a doorway or ceiling, even in a prison cell.

When I read the news, I noticed they were doing 30 minute 'staggered' checks on him. In our max unit, we do 15 minute checks to prevent this sort of thing from happening. 30 minutes is way too long to leave a prisoner like Castro alone.

I'm not thrilled with this news. I think he was a coward that took the easy way out, and should have spent the rest of his life in prison until he was a very old man. I only hope his victims are relieved that they will not have to deal with this case anymore, and get on to living their lives.
