(9,314 posts)This is a middle-aged man who has been hit with two devastating top ten stressors within a reasonably close amount of time. It was also obvious before it was publicly announced that he was having health problems. I noticed it a lot but didn't post any questions because I thought it would just give rise to a lot of negative comments about him when that was the last thing he needed.
I am simply devastated by this news. I really like Elliot Spitzer, but Keith Olbermann is a one of a kind. People make fun of his huge head, but he had a huge brain that needed a lot of room. A detractor recently mentioned "no one is irreplaceable" but Keith Olbermann is. There is no one else like him. As for his personality downsides, people with a heck of lot of smarts and high standards tend to expect too much from others. In other words, they can't measure up to his same standards, and he doesn't understand why.
As far as his problems with MSNBC, I thought they were justified. I really like some of the hosts there, but with the Comcast merger, there was definitely a change in philosophy. I turn on MSNBC and see a Republican sitting there that I absolutely have little tolerance for, and I always think the same thing -- if I wanted to listen to these people, I would watch FOX news. So I switch off.
Something tells me I might not ever enjoy seeing Keith Olbermann in an anchor seat again any time soon, and that is extremely disappointing to me. I thought I would really enjoy listening to him during this election season, and I can't think of anyone else who can match him.
