Not so much active dissembling as just not giving a shit. People ask questions, you give tham an answer, they should be grateful you take the time. Perhaps that is an effect of the long years of Soviet life, when observable veracity was secondary to the party line.

But of course I see the same things here, few if any in Congress, for example, care even for plausibility, let alone anything reasonable people could agree on as true.
