12. It's the new, new capatlism -- frequently called feudalism

See, no longer is merely buying something enough for you to own it. You can buy cell phones but can't change them. You can buy land but if a foreign entity needs it to make a profit, well too bad. You had better have a boat load of money to buy up thousands of lawyers to protect your right to ownership.

Much like feudalism where the king, or any arbitrary lord or company he may appoint, owned everything from the farm your family had worked for decades to the stream that ran next to your hovel, to the virginity of your wife and the fighting power of your future sons. Everything was the kings and everything could be taken away from you if the king, or some arbitrary lord or company he may appoint, wanted or needed what you had for their own profit. You are merely a temporary receptacle to maintain and improve the wonderful things your king allows you, until someone else wants them.

Now how did we finally overthrow feudalism? We need to know because for all practical purposes feudalism is back. But instead of a king we have very small handful of very wealthy elite capitalists who want what they want when they want it. Even if it is yours.
