(4,234 posts)In SC, when Alvin Greene won about 60+% of the votes in the Dem primary a few years ago, the SC Dems had a meeting and listened to several computer experts say that it was almost certainly a computer error or glitch of some kind. Greene, as you may remember, got a wild hair and just decided to run. No campaign, no yard signs, no nothing. Nobody knew his name from Adam and he didn't do anything to change that fact. His opponent was a well-known Dem. Surprisingly or maybe not surprisingly, the favored Dem, who campaigned and spent at least a fair amount of money on the race, was defeated by Greene by about 60% to 35%. An oddity among many others was that Alvin Greene lost to his favored opponent about 65% to 35% in the early voting and in all cases where the vote was recorded on paper. Where the machines were involved, the reverse was the case.
When the SC Dems got together and heard testimony from the computer experts explaining that the result was almost certainly a computer problem, the Dems "unanimously," I believe, voted to let it go and not investigate.
This is what you're up against. It's what all of us are up against when we call for "verified elections." The Dems themselves don't give a damn about fair elections. I have no idea why the SC Dems refused to investigate and if needed have the election again USING HAND-COUNTED PAPER BALLOTS. They could have at least tried. The SC Repubs, the ones in charge of administering the election probably would have charged an outrageous amount to have the repeat election, but it needed to be done. If you call yourself a political party I think you should act like it and try to win. You certainly should stand up for fair, verified elections.
I think I have all the facts pretty much correct. If anybody remembers this better and wants to correct my version, please do so.
I just checked BradBlog about this and my facts are not accurate, close but not accurate.

Write in Alvin Greene's name at BRadBlog's site and you can find a beaucoup of info about this fiasco.
I just checked in at BradBlog and here are a few of the articles about it. My facts are not entirely accurate.
