6. That's what I thought when I saw coverage of the derailment this morning.

At one point, they described how fast the train was. It's a 48-hour trip from Chicago to Seattle (2050 miles by car, about 25 hours driving time).

Suggesting that speed might have been a factor in the derailment, they said the train averaged 50 mph, but could go as fast as 80. I thought WTF? The rest of the world has trains going over 200 mph and we're still using trains that haven't been impressive since WW2.
