the state colleges and universities. Their arguments were very different then, there was no talk of free speech for university professors at tax funded colleges and universities.

Money was used, private donor would say close that department we will fund a different department that provides the same funds to the college, There weren't many, tenured and liberal professors left by the end of the 80s.

Media and political pressure especially during the Reagan years when federal funds for those colleges were cut to help fund that big tax cut for the wealthiest.
