The DU Lounge
Showing Original Post only (View all)Fifty some years ago I reported to one of the biggest assh@les I've ever met. I managed a retail [View all]
store and he was the District Manager. In order to reduce operating costs he decided to have store staff set up window displays instead of using the corporate contractor. In short, it became my responsibility.
When the time came for the next window change I decided to use a movies theme for the display. I contacted the manager of the local film rating office who provided me with old film cans and snippets of film at no cost. He had a number of posters that he said he could sell to me at 25 cents each. I bought them all for $6.25.
After submitting the receipt for reimbursement my assh@le boss told me that I couldnt expense the cost of the posters because I didnt get his prior approval.
Long story longer; while watching Nobody the other day I noticed a Touch Of Evil poster in one of the scenes and mentioned to my wife that I had that poster from those many years ago. She looked it up online and told me it could be worth some money. I dug out the posters that had been stored away for five decades and sent the list to several collectors and dealers.
Yesterday a dealer contacted me and asked if I could send him photos of the two he was most interested in. I did, and within minutes he offered me several thousand dollars for the lot. Just as I was ready to accept his offer, I received an email from a collector asking for photos of the same two posters and a request that I not sell them until he had a chance to make an offer if he was interested.
Sometimes the screwing you get is worth the screwing you get! 😁
