I had penmanship classes for gradeschool and penmanship was graded in it's own spot on our report cards throughout high school. I learned penmanship in both public school and Catholic school. There was a difference in some of the letters and my Catholic school teachers would deduct points if I used the cursive learned in public school.
GenZ is the generation that largely has not been taught cursive. The schools around me have brought it back. My kids (GenZ and Gen Alpha) have both learned it, but there was a large gap where it was not taught at all.

im 66 born in 1957, had a battle with cursive since i was a child. now i cant read it much unless it is very clear.
