When I first got there (4 hour stay, bus from Flagstaff)....
Believe it or not it was.....

disappointing.
Now, how could that be?!!

Well... around noonish time the ground I walked on was a pale beige gray. The first set of lower rock were a faded red.
Then.....
.
The canyon rock formations of layered "stripes" were a mix of very pale blue, cobalt blue, darker blue, and a reddish purple. Almost no shadows.
It looked very "flat*. Like looking almost at a museum's painted 2-D diorama through a plate glass window. And the colors were not what l was expecting at all!
Wth?!

Went to the gift shop. Cactus jam! Didn't buy. Then kept walking around.

Finally , around 3PM with an hour to go....
the sun got angled enough to bring out the shadows and the warm colors: pale yellow, oranges, red-orange, reds, and red browns; we are all familiar with from photos!

Phew! Well, there you are!
Wonderful. Magnificent!! 🥰
