She worked for Bethany Seminary, which had just moved its campus from Illinois to Indiana, and shares some of Earlham's facilities. Charming little place, but I had a full-blown panic attack in the Wal-Mart there, buying picnic supplies. They had a three-story house just off campus, and during my visit I helped my friend oil, wax and seal the floors of their new purchase.

As I recall, they bought the house for about $40,000, which was CHEAP even then. But as my friend pointed out, to live in the house, you had to live in Indiana.
