when Jimmy first came to Albuquerque to work in the mail room at Chuck's law firm (after Chuck bailed Jimmy out of his trouble in Cicero). So it would have been at least 5-6 years before the current events, since after that Jimmy secretly got his law degree by correspondence and passed the bar, and all of that would have taken maybe 5 years. We don't know yet what happened to the wife.
