11. We're even including Malia Obama - since she's also taking "a gap year."

(I started typing "the president's daughter..." )

I actually sent an article about the free public tuition announcement to my friend, just assuming that she'd qualify, but then today I read this. It's been tough for her since she's working two jobs part time, is married and has a young daughter at home, so she's looking for all the help she can get. With a 4.0 at the local community college (which she completed in one year since she started college years ago), she has a number of scholarship offers, but her choice of schools is going to be limited by which one will help her the most. And all the schools are in Albany, so she's saving for a car - her husband needs the one they have to transport himself and the daughter - and it's an hour trip. She's tried taking the bus, but that involves riding for two hours one way and the stopping and starting makes her car sick. I have to give her a lot of credit, I don't think I could have managed all this the first time around!
