Since, as far as I can tell, Jenrick's pre-contest fame was (a) an early breaking of Covid rules (b) him giving Richard Desmond a sweetheart development ruling as a government minister, I can see why some of them would hesitate to choose him - there's plenty for Labour (and Reform, if there's no deal) to attack there. It's whether his recent rhetoric hits the Tory G-spot enough for them to fall in love with him and ignore his record, really.
