18. You can get the models to do exactly that ...

Check out Post #7. In my reply to @highplainsdem (title: You can turn sycophancy off ...), I posted an example of a preliminary prompt that blocks most of that annoying behavior. There are times when I sort of enjoy the default interactive mode, but you're right ... it's very predictable and often annoying, so I like to have the option to turn it off. Basically you can pretty much tell these models what to do, and they will attempt to do it. The reason they're so annoying is that they are programmed to be as 'friendly' and helpful as possible, and they're also programmed not to accept failure. I think that's one of the triggers of hallucinations ... if they can't work something out, they just make something up. Some of the models are better than others. BTW, that prompt I posted was suggested to me by one of the models during a conversation about sycophancy, and I asked if there was a way to tone it down or turn it off.

I found it interesting that in the OP above, Claude had almost exactly the same tone and 'personality' as one of the other AI models. They can really suck up to you, as pointed out by @highplainsdem.
