Its only September and the competition for the loveliest design book of the fall season may already be over. Adam Silverman Ceramics (Skira Rizzoli, $60), a monograph on the work of the renowned L.A.-based artist due out September 24, is irresistibly, delectably, almost erotically gorgeous. I cant stop looking at it.
Designed with sublime restraint by Tamotsu Yagi, the stunning volume explodes antiquated distinctions between fine art and applied art, craft and design. Silvermans worktraditional pots as well as more abstract sculptures and installationsis presented in a series of deeply seductive photographs by Stefano Massei that capture every nuance of dimension, color, glazing, and finish. The images convey not only the vessels tactile allure but also their weight and presence. Each piece is an object of wonder.
