once the salmon stocks start really declining

That is very, very out of touch.

The Taimen Salmon are already officially classified as endangered, with stocks down 90%. 1/3 of Sockeye Salmon populations are already at risk or extinct (including my local population). A large portion of Atlantic Salmon populations have gone extinct.

The salmon do not have the time--evolutionary speaking--to adapt to the vast increase in water temperatures and quick acidification of the oceans; and this is only a fraction of the climate related problems they face. Add in everything else thats been happening (like over-fishing, pollution and habitat destruction) and their outlook is dismal.

In any case, the stocks have already drastically declined, and vast numbers are already endangered or extinct. You are late to the party.
