Actually, IMO we've been fucked for a while, but it's becoming glaringly obvious now.

There is a group of us who study the evolutionary origins of human behaviour and psychology, especially their influence on our growth patterns. We've been convinced for the last decade or so that our species has been fucked since the beginning. Given the world's abundance of fossil fuels and the collective behaviour of human beings in conditions of surplus, the overshoot we're in could not be avoided, and will be almost impossible to remedy on a global level. Local responses may be slightly helpful, but they won's keep the big picture of global techno-industrial civilization from coming undone.

We're just about done.
