A question for LGBT members re: Lindsey Graham

In recent days, I’ve seen a number of social media lists from gay friends calling Sen. Graham “Miss Lindsey,” and breaking the news to him that “try as you may, you’ll never get to be First Lady.”

Now, I find this just as funny as the next person; however, I’ve also seen the “Miss Lindsey” label used by some of my fellow straights, and I’m not all-that-comfortable with it. It seems to me that the context is drastically different when a straight person mocks Graham for potentially being gay, just as the “n-word” has a massively different connotation depending on whether it’s used between African-Americans or by a white person.

Others, both straight and gay, have told me I’m being oversensitive. So, I’d be curious to hear the opinion here. Comments welcome.

Is a straight person calling Sen. Graham “Miss Lindsey,” or making other jokes referring to his putative sexual orientation, offensive?
