Half of the Democratic Party doesn't live in the Clinton era anymore... [View all]

We've moved on. Welcome to the progressive era. We won't stand by anymore when these 4 atrocities continue to drown us in this country.

First, our voting rights. Citizens united officially made it legal to buy elections. In the Democratic party, we have people whose vote are equivalent to 10,000 regular votes. Republicans have made it very hard for some people, generally minorities, to go out and vote by closing polling stations and changing rules at the last minute. Candidates are now forced to go out and fund-raise millions from wealthy individuals, usually large corporations, and pledge their support while in office just so they can get elected. That obviously leads to those candidates not following through with campaign promises and policies. We the people suffer while they play games with our money.

Second, college should be free for anybody willing to work for it. Meaning good grades in high school and do community service or join the military in exchange for tuition. It would pay for itself by creating the largest number of working people since the 1950s. Small business would expand, jobs would be created, and there would be people ready to fill them. Plus it is the right thing to do for our young people. We need to set them up for success, not drown them in debt. It is an investment not a cost.

Third, economic security. When there are many corporations who don't pay a dime in federal taxes, theres a problem. This can't be an incremental fix. It has to be fixed yesterday. Our system works great when everybody plays by the (moral) rules but that just doesn't happen. Many times, our presidential candidates are influenced by some of the biggest offenders. As long as we keep voting them into office, it will never change. We have to place a cap on capital for financial institutions as well. They need to be broken up into smaller businesses to deter a monopoly on the financial system which could, if it implodes, create a global disaster. Yes, we have that responsibility. And the way it's looking right now is pretty grim.

Finally, healthcare. It should be a human right. There is absolutely no reason somebody should stay ill because they can't afford health insurance. There are still millions of people, generally lower middle class families, who can't afford health insurance. They just don't make enough money. The ACA is a step in the right direction but it is still costing people much more than it should. We CAN lower healthcare prices for everybody by thousands each year with single payer. I'm much more willing to pay for that then some foreign aid.

These four things are on the minds of millions of Americans now.
