This is another aspect of our current system that often gets completely overlooked. Making your way around all the medicare rules, part this, part that, supplemental coverages, gaps and doughnut holes, etc. is complicated. It's like doing your own taxes. Some people are fine with it. But lots of other people are not good at this kind of thing. And the elderly come in all types, well-educated and not, mathematically oriented and not. And to boot, many are no longer at the peak of their cognitive abilities. It is cruel to force everyone to navigate through all this and ultimately leave them to cross their fingers and hope they made the right choices.
