Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: Warren supporters need to know that their vote for Warren could wind up being a vote for Bernie. [View all]booley
(3,855 posts)One of which is that those voters cant' be swayed to Sanders over time
Why assume the Warren voters who have Buttigieg as a second choice would never switch to Sanders if/when Buttigieg dropped out?
Look at that chart again. Notice something? When it comes to the second choice, Sanders gets a healthy percentage from all the other candidates. The only one who is higher are Bloom berg voters who would switch to Biden and Bloomberg is at what? 6%?
Frankly, your mistake is acting as if this is Sanders versus EVERYBODY ELSE, as if everybody who isn't' Sanders is part of some monolithic block, and the votes for Everybody else will stay the same.
Th reason why that doesn't work is Sanders supporters are sticky. That means they are less likely to switch than other candidates without Sanders leaving the race first.

Though I admit what really bothers me is the double standard. Why is it bad that Sanders only has 31% of Warren voters as a second choice but not even worse for Biden that he only has 19%. Or Buttigieg gets at most 15%. The fact is Sanders is doing better at potentially grabbing Warren voters than any other candidate. But somehow it doesn't' matter because it's Bernie Sanders.
IF 70% of Warren voters don't' want Sanders, then 81% don't' want Biden and 85% don't' care for Buttigieg if I am following the logic you laid out.
No one among the Sanders camp is arguing otherwise. Given what happened in places like Michigan and other examples I can give, I can say Sanders voters are very much in favor of allowing the Voters to choose with the DNC staying neutral as possible.
Though again I don't' know-how what this has to do with Sanders picking up Warren supporters if she drops out.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
