Including when the person doing the reassuring is there SPECIFICALLY to offer support and help the person being reassured give a better speech and get more votes.
And in the interests of getting the message across, every bit of fiction and non-fiction describing someone putting a reassuring hand on someone's shoulder should be edited to note that it was inappropriate, creepy behavior.
What do you think the penalties should be for platonic but physical gestures of reassurance? Stoning? Or would this merit the death penalty?
Or just, as some people are apparently hoping, the death of someone's political aspirations if that person is polling better than those critics' favorite candidate?
