Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: Yang: Bloomberg is telling donors not to give to Democrats in the Primary [View all]W_HAMILTON
(7,919 posts)48. No, it's not.
Because Super PACs do not donate to candidates and therefore any money a billionaire gives to a Super PAC will never end up in the coffers of a candidate to begin with.
And the whole """wine cave""" scandal of a few debates ago, yes, actually the people that went there were able to get in just by donating that much. A regular person posted their experience about it:
But the whole experience fell well short of proving Warrens suggestion that billionaires in wine caves" will pick the next president. Nor is it an example of corruption a word some Democratic candidates use far too casually to describe political and policy opponents in either their or the other party. Lets save that term for folks who plainly belong in a jail cell and those whove taken up residence in one already.
Speaking of price, my bet is that you probably want to know: How much did it cost for me to go?
To attend the dinner, donors were asked to max out to contribute the maximum allowed by law to a primary candidate. I made my first contribution to Mayor Pete back in May at a San Francisco fundraiser that was attended by close to 1,000 people. Ive made additional contributions since, including buying a bumper sticker from his campaign shop. (Its not every day in America that a gay man has a realistic chance of becoming president, so yes, my partner and I probably qualify as enthusiastic.) All of these contributions count toward the individual limit of $2,800.
So, exactly how much more did it cost to attend that infamous wine cave dinner? In my case, the answer is $11.

This is why their attacks on their donors are so shameful. You can rest assured that both Sanders and Warren have plenty of donors that maxed out at the same $2,800 donation amounts that they are criticizing Biden and Buttigieg for getting from billionaires.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

Now we can agree that this man is harmful to our party - he is all about himself.

None of the other candidates are saying anything so there isn't much need to defend.

What's wrong with it? If you want to win, of course you don't want people donating to rivals.
