And then the answer becomes pretty clear. Tensions between the Radical Frinch of Islam (embodied by al-Qaeda) have been in existence since at least the 70's, due in large part to our nations bit partisan support of Israel (which I largely agree with) and our preference for stability over freedom for the people of the middle east (and the rest of the third world, for that matter (which I don't agree with).

President Bush has done as much as he can to deepen that disdain, but he didn't create it.
