... a parody of isn't so much one that Limbaugh tries to cast us as being, but was one that many DU'ers seem to embrace -- it's the kind of person who thought that the map was something Smigel was endorsing as funny when it was clearly something that he was criticizing (along with the "Red staters are 3% more racist" sort of thing).

In that cartoon, Santa was sitting around the table unselfconsciously mocking Red Staters for believing in God (when "Santa" is just as much something that depends on suspending your sense of disbelief). The "Liberals hate us because we love God" comment wasn't so much of a stand-alone characature of southerners as it was an extension of the conversation Santa was having in Chinatown.

And if you think exacerbating the R v B divide is just a flaw which we should laugh at every once in a while, but not consciously try to avoid, then that's a problem.
