6. Department stores are dinosaurs
Few of them have any differentiation. That's why they're merging...trying to survive.

I didn't know Dayton had sold Marshall Fields to Federated till I read about May's purchase a few weeks ago. May will probably close or rename all of Fields' locations except maybe the State Street store. Fields used to stand for quality and class in Chicago, but Dayton fucked that all up. Now it's just another place with too much markup. The last time I shopped there was maybe five or six years ago.

I'm like you now. I shop online. I'm rarely disappointed by the merchandise, and I'm never worn out with nothing to show for it by the end of the trip.
