6. distraction - or miscalculation?
he has been doing A LOT of miscalculating lately. Go for Social Security... error. Keep pushing for Bolton... error. Get involved in Schaivo and tie it to getting fringe judges passed... error.

He is so used to winning and going after other folks' juggulars... that he doesn't seem to be able to self-correct, or recognize anymore when his own jugular is exposed.

In this case the jugular isn't that he would be fired (no bush without rove) but that he suddenly gets into the public light enough - that the public starts linking him to bush machinations and starts recognizing bush's actions as Rovian machinations/manipulations.
