I believe he's a sales rep. I can imagine that right-wing customers and his employer can put a LOT of pressure on a guy "who can't keep his wife in line." It's easy for such folks to give lip service to sympathy and make a man's professional life a living hell. It's also easy for a guy in such a position to submit to such pressure to some degree. Not 'right' mind you, but easy. We're certainly not at our best when, after suffering such a tragic loss, we're confronted with such covert pressures.
