A call to action to remove the Bush Regime!

National Statement
August 11, 2005

We are activists, citizens, immigrants, dreamers, pragmatists, democrats, revolutionaries, independents and former Republicans too. We are the majority of this country. We are Not in Our Name.

We have called for an end to the war; an end to the occupation, an end to police-state measures, and an end to the round-ups and detentions of Arab, Muslim, and South Asian peoples. We have marched in our millions and built a powerful movement of resistance that was ignored by this government. Our votes were discounted, our elections stolen. Our cries of conscience fell on the deaf ears of Congress and continuously our televisions and newspapers repeated the government's lies word for word.

Still, we continue to struggle. From the abolition of slavery to women’s suffrage, from the bus boycotts of Montgomery to the anti-globalization movement, U.S. history is full of beautiful examples of people attempting the seemingly impossible and succeeding. Why not now? Not in Our Name is joining with others to call for an end to a regime based on hatred, lies and greed. Collectively, we must build a m ovement to unseat Bush and his cronies before 2008; to make perfectly clear that war criminals do not deserve power and are not fit to rule. We’ve seen the polls and we can feel the incredible anger and fear in the hearts of the people around us. Something must be done, and our time is now.

We say with a collective voice that this President, this administration, this war and their political agenda for the world are NOT IN OUR NAME! Furthermore, any president or any administration with such an agenda for endless war and repression is NOT IN OUR NAME! It is time for them to go.
