He's also wrong: the eventual argument about abortion is never about growing up, becoming poor and being criminals. That is a sleight on all poor people because it's kind of tarring all poor people with the same brush; that poor people are criminals (which is absurd).

How many non African-American abortions have there been?

Also, maybe we do need a proper debate about abortion. Maybe religion is to blame - some Catholic and Protestant sects are good at putting out the anti-abortion message, whereas other churches have been pushing a different message, and maybe paying 'lip service' to abortion.

However Mr. Gibson is right about one thing: Mr. Bennett completely put his foot in his mouth and left it there. But yes, we 'liberals' know Mr. Bennett's normal line is an anti-abortion one; it's just that he says a stupid comment like that and 'hidden racism' comes out in the message.
