I agree with everything you have said. Today's Republicans are anything but 'conservative' and I am sometimes ammused when they mindlessly cling to that label, not having the slightest clue about the concept.

As time goes by I find myself being less assertive about arguing our points with Republicans. That's mainly because the Bush cartel has been doing a very convincing job of making that case with any thinking person who is paying the least bit of attention.
