But it absolutely tipped the scales in a big way.

The Russians took a HUGE portion of the casualties, but it's unlikely that they would have won--at best they could have had a sort of stalemate--had the US not intervened. What is overlooked often is the totally vital role us material aid to the USSR played: it wasn't merely the Western Front--it was also the shoes, the socks, the guns, the bullets, the helmets that were all being shipping en masse before Normandy.
