Sorry, PD... you and I frequently agree on a lot of things, but I part ways with you on this thread and this poll.

I think it cheapens the debate and the valid criticisms of Bush when people attempt to make a direct comparison between Bush and Hitler.

I do think that there are times when it's completely valid and appropriate to make references and comparisons to Bush policies (and his assault on our rights and the constitution) as being Nazi-like. I also think it's fine to compare his minions their bully tactics as being similar to Gestapo-tactics or Brownshirt-like.

Things like this thread/poll just make DUers look silly. This is the type of poll that the folks over in Freeperville LOVE to see. They use it and point to it as an example of how unrealistic, paranoid, and hate-driven we are.

I must say... I'm not impressed by efforts to shield this thread from criticism with cries of "Freedom of Speech", and suggestions that everyone is free to "have an open discussion" and state their opinion.

It's an exercise in navel-gazing that makes us all look pretty damn foolish and shallow. I know you're a smart guy, but I think that this thread shows a definite lapse of good judgment.
