7. The SIM card is the card inside the phone that has your
phone number encoded on it and makes the phone work. It could simply be that the card is not securely in the phone. Taking it out and putting it back in might solve the problem. It's usually located under the battery.

It is possible that the SIM card really has gone bad. It occassionally happens. If you know which carrier actually carries the phone calls (Sprint, AT&T wireless, T-Mobile) you can take the phone to their store and have them move your number to a new SIM card.
