12. I took walking for granted until the first time I suffered from a pinched Femoral nerve.
I took my ability to walk down stairs for granted until I wrecked my knee recently.

I think it's human nature to overlook the things that work, and never fully appriciate just how dependant we are on extremely complex systems working consistently well without serious glitches.

Consider yourself blessed Bertha, you came to that conclusion and still have your hands, there are many other people who had to lose an appendage to realize just how much good it did them.
