21. I was in Paris when the French won the world cup.
Being American, I didn't really get it, but the entire city erupted. You knew immediately what happened. The most amazing thing was that Paris was the host city for the thing. I tried to be polite and express my congratulations to the French.

Hotels were about 3X as expensive as they normally were, but a cab driver told me that his business was way down. Apparently many people stayed away because of the prices.

That was in the Clinton era, when the dollar was relatively strong, so it wasn't all that painful for my company to pay my expenses.
