20. For those who want to run the Error Checker manually.
Click/Dbl click on "My Computer". Note: Do not click on the shortcut to your hard drive.

Right click on your hardrive - Properties - Tools.
Find the Error Checker which - in XP - is the top box and click Check Now. A new box appears and click on both those items and click Start. It will work for a few seconds then a message will appear that it can't continue and did you want to check on reboot. Click Yes and the next time you reboot your computer it will check and fix errors.
