They see a beautiful, intelligent woman like Angelina wind up with a stud like Brad Pitt, leaving man-faced Jen all alone and they immediately personalize it, thinking about how they would feel if their husband left them for some beautiful, intelligent woman.

In that scenario, it's impossible for them to blame their husband so they throw blame on the "other woman", labeling her a "homewrecker" because everyone knows a man has no control whatsoever over his testosterone and will dash after the first pretty woman who sends a come-hither look at him (albeit with cold eyes like that of a striking snake or whatever).

It's the same dynamic at work as that which comes into play when a child is kidnapped or the WTC is attacked - people personalize it and are convinced that their child will be abducted or they will be injured or killed in a terrorist attack even though the odds are much better for them getting run over crossing the street to buy the latest tabloid to read about homewreckers like Angelina Jolie.
